Children enjoying the new play area at Greaves Park

Children had a fantastic time at the launch of a new play area in Lancaster.

More than 150 people attended the launch in Greaves Park on Saturday in glorious sunshine after a £60,000 revamp of the playground.

Children enjoyed using their new play equipment, having their faces painted, playing parachute games and picnicking with their families and friends.

Councillor Abi Mills (pictured below), who co-ordinated the refurbishment of the park in partnership with Lancaster City Council, said: “The launch event was amazing.

"The atmosphere in the park was buzzing all day from 10am!

"I smiled throughout the whole event. It was incredible to see and hear so many children enjoying the park, and I look forward to playing in it with the children I child-mind.

"A huge thank you to the face painters, to Little Pebbles toddler group for the games, to The Greaves Park Pub for the refreshments and to Lancaster City Council public realm team for their amazing support.

"The project has taken a couple of years to come to fruition, with various consultations to ensure we were putting in equipment that we knew the community wanted. For example, everyone said they wanted more swings, so we have seven different swings in the park - all to suit different ages and abilities."

The Friends of Greaves Park thanked all the funders who made this project possible - Lancashire Environmental Fund, Walney Extension Community Fund, Lancaster University Wind Turbine Community Benefit Fund, Lancaster City Council, Lancashire County Council, The Duchy of Lancaster and the local community.

The Friends group was set up in 2003, by local residents who wanted to improve the whole of Greaves Park.
