The Beyond Radio team has been celebrating another successful year at our annual Awards Night.
The team gathered at the Golden Ball at Snatchems on Friday to celebrate the successes of 2023 and the contributions of our amazing presenters and support staff, many of whom are volunteers.
This year Beyond Radio has continued to be at the forefront of the North Lancashire and Morecambe Bay community, providing the best in music and local news.
Our team has been front and centre at numerous local events for more live outside broadcasts and hosting duties than ever before in 2023.
They included the Lancaster Christmas Lights Switchon, Highest Point festival, Lancaster Music Festival, the Krazy Races soapbox derby, the Colour Dash for St John's Hospice, School Aid, Lancaster City Council's community open days, Carnforth Carnival, Bare Fest festival, Beaumont College open days, opening night of Around the World in 80 Days at Williamson Park, the King's Coronation Big Lunch in Carnforth, Wray Scarecrow Festival and many more.
We have continued to provide many hours of varied programming including local news, sport, daytime and specialist music shows, across the whole of North Lancashire and the Morecambe Bay area, as well as several podcasts and support for many local organisations.
Highlights have included a brand new daytime line-up, numerous big-name interviews including with world heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, legendary Status Quo front man Francis Rossi and Lancaster TV comedian Jon Richardson, live on-air sessions from local musicians, our Saturday Sports Show going weekly for the first time, brand new shows including a monthly poetry programme, and our continuing live commentary of Morecambe Football Club matches.
We also had the honour of our own square on the new Lancaster edition of Monopoly!
The awards included a Listeners' Choice for favourite programme, chosen by our listeners, awards for favourite show and presenter chosen by our team, and awards chosen by our board of directors.
A special award was given to our former managing director Steven Normyle and commercial director Nathan Hill (pictured below with Duncan Moore), who have been instrumental in setting up Beyond Radio and working to build the station over many years.
The Adam Stutchbury Memorial Award, given this year to Steve and Nathan, is named after Beyond Radio volunteer Adam Stutchbury who passed away in 2022.
