Shrimps ready for Wanderers test

Morecambe makes the short trip to Greater Manchester tonight to take on Bolton Wanderers in League One.

There’s full commentary of the game on Shrimps Live, on our FM and DAB+ services, from 7:30pm (August 16).

Midfielder Jensen Weir is available again after being suspended for the weekend’s clash with Fleetwood Town.

Last season saw two 1-1 draws between the sides, and the Shrimps go into the encounter at the University of Bolton Stadium looking to go three games unbeaten, after Saturday’s draw in the Lancashire derby, and victory over Stoke City in the Carabao Cup last Tuesday.

“I remember going there last year and drawing 1-1, we probably should’ve won the game,’’ said manager, Derek Adams.

“We played ever so well that night, so did Bolton, they had a pattern of play that was difficult to play against, and we did really well against them.

“We created a number of good openings in the game, but Tuesday night is different, the teams are different, they’ve adapted over the summer, and we’ve added as well.

“Anybody that beats Wycombe 3-0 has to be doing something right, we looked at that game, we’ve looked at the game from Saturday [against Port Vale], we’ve looked at previous games, we understand their philosophy and we understand what we’ve got to do to get the better of them.

“We changed formation from the team that played on Tuesday night [against Stoke City],” he said.

“We wanted to get the better of Fleetwood and our formation allowed that to happen, and we’ve been quite fluid and quite adaptable as a team to change from a three at the back to a four at the back.

“We can do different things in midfield, we can play two, we can play with one sitter, it’s a squad that is ever adaptable, and that’s what you do need in this division.

“You can’t play the same way all the time unless you’re a top team, and the top teams can play in the same manner because they have better players over the whole squad.

“For some teams in this division, we’ve got to adapt, and try to see where the strengths are in the opposition, but also the weaknesses as well.”
