Shrimps look to make League Cup history at MK Dons

Morecambe aim to make the fourth round of the League Cup for the first time in their history tomorrow (Tuesday November 8).

The Shrimps travel to MK Dons, for what will be the Club’s fourth successive midweek fixture in all competitions, and off the back of their 2-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday on Friday.

Victory for the Shrimps would see the Club progress to the last 16 of a cup competition for the first time as a Football League club.

Morecambe are expected to take a similar squad to the one utilised at Hillsborough, with youngster Adam Mayor available again after missing out on Friday evening as he was cup-tied.

‘’The FA Cup tie at Sheffield Wednesday was difficult but we acquitted ourselves well,’’ said manager, Derek Adams, speaking to the Club's YouTube channel.

‘’We caused them problems at times and got into good areas, but we lost two goals we could have done better at, and on the night just fell short.

‘’We have much the same squad (for MK Dons). But we look forward to it. It’s a chance to progress to the next round and it could be the furthest we ever have.’’

Morecambe will be keen to improve on their showing from their League One encounter earlier in the season, when the Dons won 4-0 at the Mazuma Stadium in August.

‘’They played very well that day and were clinical,’’ said Adams.

‘’We can see the strengths and weaknesses in their side.

‘’It’s important we take confidence into the match. We played very well against the Championship teams in Stoke and Rotherham United, but this is a difficult next challenge for us.

‘’There’s been a lot of fixtures packed into a short space of time and we’ve had a lot of travelling to do. But the players have looked fresh and are ready to go.’’
