Report, highlights and reaction: Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 Morecambe

Barry Bannan's early opener and a Josh Windass brace saw The Owls make it 18 games without defeat.

Sheffield Wednesday made a fast start and took the lead early on when the ball was pulled back to Bannan who side footed into the bottom left corner from ten yards after just 90 seconds.

Wednesday doubled their lead midway through the half when Windass got the final touch inside the six yard box after Bannan had pulled the ball back from the byline.

The Shrimps were almost straight back in the game a minute later when Michael Mellon’s fierce drive was well stopped by Owls' goalkeeper Cameron Dawson.

Jensen Weir struck a free kick just over the Wednesday goal just before half time.

In the second half, Liam Shaw’s cross was met by Cole Stockton, but his volley lacked power, before he also saw a header and another effort from range fly wide of the target.

Bannan’s curling effort from range flew wide of Ripley’s right-hand post, before Wednesday secured the points inside the final minutes. Substitute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru burst into the box and his cross was met by Windass, who found the net again despite the effort appearing to go in off the forward’s arm.

Morecambe now look to the visit of Peterborough United to the Mazuma on Saturday, as the Shrimps look to extend their unbeaten home run to ten games.
