Morecambe darts star Dave Chisnall wins Dutch Darts Championship

Dave Chisnall is the new Dutch Darts Champion

Morecambe darts ace Dave Chisnall won his second European title of the year and his fifth overall as he triumphed in the Dutch Darts Championship.

Chizzy defeated Luke Humphries 8-5 in the final on Sunday night in Leeuwarden to take home the £30,000 top prize.

It was a repeat win on the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) European Tour for the Morecambe player who also beat Humphries to take the Baltic Sea Open title in February.

The Morecambe man had earlier beaten Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright to reach the final in the darting hotbed of the Netherlands.

Chisnall had looked on course to race away to victory in the final, with an 11-dart break of throw helping him establish a three-leg cushion from 4-1.

Humphries, the world number six, defied two 13-darters from Chisnall as he battled back to trail by just one leg, as he followed a 12-darter with a break of throw.

Chisnall, though, crucially broke back with a 14-darter to lead 7-5 before landing double 10 to seal glory.

CHIZZY TAKES THE TITLE! 🏆 Dave Chisnall seals an 8-5 win over Luke Humphries to win the Dutch Darts Championship! A second European Tour title of the year for Chisnall!

Chisnall began Sunday's Finals Day in the Netherlands with a 6-3 win over Josh Rock before performing superbly to see off world number two Peter Wright 6-1 in the quarter-finals.

The 42-year-old, who is originally from St Helens but has lived in Morecambe for more than a decade, led 3-0 in his semi-final against local hero and former world champion Michael van Gerwen.

But then the home favourite fired in a 170 finish, before hitting back from 5-2 down to level.

The game eventually went to a deciding leg as seven missed match darts gave van Gerwen a chance to swoop - but he uncharacteristically spurned three darts at double six.

Chisnall silenced the partisan Dutch crowd, who had been trying their best to put him off, to book his spot in the decider.

World number 13 Chizzy now tops the European Tour Order of Merit and will move on to the Belgian Darts Open which starts on May 5.
