Injuries mount up as Shrimps prepare for Shrewsbury trip

Morecambe have a number of injury concerns ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Shrewsbury Town in League One.

There’s full match commentary of the game (Saturday March 11), from 2:45pm on our FM and DAB+ services.

It’s mixed news for the Shrimps on the injury front.

Burnley loanee striker, Michael Mellon, requires shoulder surgery and will miss the remainder of the season, after dislocating it against Fleetwood Town two weeks ago.

Max Melbourne is having a scan on the hamstring injury that forced the defender off in the first half of the draw at Cambridge on Tuesday, while midfielder Jake Taylor currently has a calf strain, and defender Jacob Bedeau will be out for up to the next ten days with a swollen knee.

Attacker Arthur Gnahoua was ill for the Cambridge game, but could return on Saturday.

Morecambe head to the Montgomery Waters Meadow still inside the League One relegation zone by a single point, with 11 games of the season to play.

The Shrimps are also still searching for their second away win of the season, following Tuesday’s draw at the Abbey Stadium.

‘’Shrewsbury have done really well this season,’’ said manager, Derek Adams.

‘’They’re up at the top end of the table and trying to push into those play off positions, but we have a lot to play for, and we’ll need a similar performance than we had (on Tuesday).

‘’They don’t come any easier, and we understand that. There’s a gulf between the clubs on and off the field.

‘’It’s important that we try and get the three points.

‘’I still think there’s eight teams in (the relegation battle). There’s still a lot of points to play for.

‘’We have one of the youngest squads in the division, and that’s when the experienced players come into play, as they understand the pressures and can help from that point of view.

‘’Wins are huge as they propel you up the league quickly. We need to get some to enable us to get to a position where safety does happen.’’
