Young girl rescued from quicksand near Silverdale

A young girl has been rescued from quicksand near Silverdale.

The alarm was raised just after 10.40 this morning (Thursday February 9), with Morecambe RNLI being were tasked to respond to reports of a person stuck in quicksand near Silverdale. 

The inshore rescue Hovercraft launched on service and proceeded to the area. The volunteer crew members quickly located the young casualty and extracted her from the soft sand before the incoming tide reached.

A spokesperson said: ‘’The young casualty was very brave and kept very calm throughout the rescue. Well done from us all.

‘’The casualty was then transferred to our colleagues from Bay Search & Rescue, who placed her into the Sherp for warmth before NWAS arrived on scene to check the casualty over. 

‘’We would like to remind everyone that if you get into difficulty or see anyone in trouble within Morecambe Bay. Please call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
