Work under way on new Starbucks drive-through at Asda Lancaster

The new drive-through coffee shop will be at Asda Lancaster

Work has begun to build a new Starbucks coffee shop drive-through at the Asda supermarket in Lancaster.

The new drive-through will open in the supermarket car park on Ovangle Road.

Lancaster City Council gave planning permission for the coffee shop in January 2023, after an application by Asda owners EG Group Limited.

Starbucks is one of the biggest names in coffee houses and has tens of thousands of shops worldwide.

Several other Starbucks drive-throughs have opened next to Asda supermarkets across the UK.

The chain also has a shop on Market Street in Lancaster city centre.

The new development will cover a 4,003 square metre area of the existing Asda car park including the access route.

Here is a photo of the building site at Asda Lancaster car park, taken on Sunday.

The new unit will be one single storey building for the sale of hot drinks, with a drive-through lane together with associated car and cycle parking, and refuse storage. It will include a kitchen, takeaway window and a seating area.

It will be accessed via the existing Asda entrance from the B5273 Ovangle Road, and via pedestrian footpaths, and EG Group Limited said in their application that there will be no changes to the "vehicular circulation" within the supermarket car park.
