UPDATE: Carnforth man arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after social media video

Police have arrested a man from Carnforth after a social media video surfaced appearing to show animal cruelty to a cat.

Earlier today, police said that they believed that no crime had been committed after a social media video – which Beyond Radio has seen - was circulated that appeared to show a cat being thrown into water in a quarry.

Officers investigating had originally said that they believed the cat wasn’t alive at the time of the incident, which they thought happened some time ago, and were satisfied no criminal offence had been committed.

However now, having reviewed the footage, an 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty and is in custody.

In a statement, a spokesperson said: ‘’Having reviewed the footage and conducted further enquiries, an investigation is underway and we will be speaking to a man in connection with animal cruelty offences.

‘’We are aware some people have targeted those shown in the video and their families and subjected them to threats and anti-social behaviour. We would remind people any criminal behaviour will be dealt with robustly.’’
