Police inspector praises Highest Point after 'few issues' at Lancaster festival

Highest Point festival took place in Williamson Park, Lancaster from May 11-14

A detective inspector has given Highest Point festival a "thumbs up" from a policing point of view.

Det Insp Adie Knowles of Lancaster Police said there had been six arrests at the Williamson Park festival but overall "the event passed without that many issues at all".

Speaking on his regular Beyond the Beat feature on Beyond Radio, Det Insp Knowles said the 2023 event - which pulled tens of thousands of people to the park from May 11-14 - had fewer incidents than the previous year.

"I had a quick chat with the neighbourhood sergeants who were responsible for policing the event and the first thing they said was 'there was less bother than last year'," he said.

"When I say 'bother', I'm talking about the miniscule amount that came to our attention.

"There were six arrests made in total over the event, which is not that many when you think about how many people were going. Mainly around assaults and drug offences.

"There were quite a few complaints about parking issues and traffic congestion (on nearby streets) but you can't really get away (from) that, with an event that big.

"Generally speaking the event passed without many issues at all.

"One of the main issues at any event of that nature, is we had 12 reported thefts of mobile phones where people have left stuff unattended and people take advantage of that.

"So if there's one thing when you go to those kind of events, just please keep tabs on your personal property.

"Other than that, great event. Thumbs up from the 'bobbies' who policed it."

*Highest Point festival takes place annually in the Lancaster park and this year featured live music from Anne-Marie, Bastille, Hacienda Classical (pictured above) and a Big Family Day Out hosted by Beyond Radio.

Festival organisers have announced that it will return from May 10-12 2024.
