Players could be 'sent to Yorkshire' not jail on new Lancaster Monopoly game

There have been calls for players to be 'sent to Yorkshire' instead of the traditional jail on the new Lancaster edition of Monopoly.

People have suggested this change to have a good-natured dig at Lancashire's age-old 'War of the Roses' rivals, as ideas for the new Lancaster-themed game come flooding in from the public.

This follows last week's announcement that Lancaster will get its own version of the property-themed board game.

If you land on the 'Go to Jail' space in Monopoly, you have to go straight to the jail space and stay there until you pay a fine, roll a double on your dice, or get a 'Get out of Jail' card.

Fans of Monopoly have also said that Lancaster Castle should be the showpiece landmark on the board, replacing Mayfair in the classic London version.

The Ashton Memorial is running a close second in the public vote for this space.

Others have suggested that the Judges Lodgings museum (pictured below) should feature on the traditional 'Old Kent Road' space, as its the oldest townhouse in the city.

"We shall be studying each and every nomination after suggestions lines close next week,” said Ella Gibbs from the game’s producers Winning Moves UK.

“The overall flavour and feel is that we are going to be – wonderfully ! - spoilt for choice putting this game together, which is great. Thank you to everyone who has sent in suggestions so far, please do keep them coming.”

The public consultation period ends next Tuesday, February 21.

People can send in their suggestions for landmarks to appear in the game, including those in Lancaster, Morecambe, Carnforth and the surrounding area.

The finished game itself will hit the shops this October, well in time for Christmas.
