Platinum Jubilee: Your full guide to Carnforth's four days of celebrations

Carnforth is all set for four days of celebrations to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee starting today (Thursday June 2).

Beyond Radio is delighted to be part of the Carnforth Big Jubilee Weekend to celebrate Her Majesty's 70 years on the throne.

Events in Carnforth to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee will take place from Thursday June 2 to Sunday June 5.

Tonight (June 2), a beacon will be lit as part of a special event that will see more than 1,500 beacons simultaneously set alight across the UK and Commonwealth.

The celebrations will start at 6pm on Carnforth High School field where there will be entertainment, music, fairground rides and refreshments.

Carnforth Community and St John’s Hospice choirs will jointly sing a special commemorative song as a torch relay culminates in the beacon being lit at exactly 9.45pm by Linda Denby of Carnforth Wombles.

A Community Sports Day will be held at Carnforth High School field from noon until 5pm on June 3.

This will be a ‘traditional’ sports day for all the family to enjoy with a variety of games and fun for primary age children (aged five to 11) accompanied by an adult.

There will be refreshments, ice cream, music and all the fun of the fair.

The Big Jubilee Lunch street party will be held on Saturday June 4.

Chairs and tables will be set out on lower Market Street, which will be festooned in bunting.

Residents are encouraged to bring their own picnic and get creative with table decorations and be prepared to share friendship and fun!

Sales of two of the three sittings for The Big Jubilee Lunch have now closed due to high demand.

There will be something for all the family with food vendors and craft stalls, funfair, street games, local bands and musicians and karaoke throughout the day.

Beyond Radio will be on hand to provide great music and banter!

The fun starts at noon and is free for everyone!

Anyone wishing to sit and have a picnic at the tables must book online here.

Finally, on Sunday June 5 there will be a commemorative parade and service to celebrate the Queen’s 70-year reign.

Community groups will lead off from upper Market Street to the War Memorial Gardens where a special service will be held.

Residents are invited to dress up and wave flags as part of this patriotic parade.

"This is, without doubt, the most ambitious project undertaken by Carnforth Town Council," said Bob Bailey, town clerk.

"We are aiming to commemorate the incredible reign of the Queen over 70 years whilst celebrating our fantastic Carnforth community through sharing, friendship and fun.

"The town council, local community groups and business have worked together in the hope that the Carnforth Big Jubilee Weekend will be a great success and showcase what a small but close-knit community like ours can achieve when it sets its collective mind to doing something really special.

"Please come to any or all of these free events and enjoy the fun!"
