Morecambe lifeboat crew respond to call to family cut off by tide

Morecambe lifeboat crew responded to a weekend call out to help family cut off by the tide.

Just before 7:40pm on Saturday (August 26), the team received a report that two people with a child were crossing a channel at Kent’s Bank towards Grange Over Sands.

Launch Authority Chris Walton authorised the immediate deployment of the inshore lifeboat.

Whilst making way to the area Coastguard informed the crew that the persons were now in reach of the safety of the shore and they could stand down.

The inshore lifeboat returned to the boat house and was made ready for the next call to service.

Chris Walton said: “Whilst on this occasion all had returned safely to shore it does go without saying that the bay poses many risks.

‘’It is inherently dangerous attempting to cross channels with hidden quick sand placing lives in serious danger. If going out on the bay you need to be aware of fast rising tides and lurking dangers of quick sand.

‘’Do not go out of your comfort zone and always ensure someone knows your whereabouts who is based on the shore.’’
