Plans for the future of a popular Lancaster base for musicians to play, record and rehearse will be revealed at a special event next month.
The Lancaster Music Co-Op is inviting people to an official launch party for its new website on Thursday March 16 at The Pub on China Street in the city.
There will be live music and the chance to chat with the Co-Op team, musicians and local event organisers.
The team will explain what has been going on behind the scenes to secure the future of the Music Co-Op, which is currently closed ahead of a planned refurbishment and reopening.
They will also share plans for the new website and let people know how to get involved in shaping it into an essential community hub – a place to promote gigs, organise shows, create bands and celebrate everything that is great about Lancaster.
Lancaster Music Co-op is a non-profit rehearsal facility, recording studio and music space for the music community in Lancaster and the surrounding area. It was set up in 1985 by a group of Lancaster University students who needed somewhere to rehearse.
Countless musicians have used the Co-Op, based on Lodge Street in the Canal Quarter area of the city, including well-known local bands such as Massive Wagons, The Lovely Eggs (pictured below), The Heartbreaks and many more.
In 2018 Lancaster’s creative community rallied together and fought hard to save the Co-Op after an eviction notice was served by Lancaster City Council.
Following public pressure, councillors voted unanimously to save the Co-op, repair the building, issue a long-term lease and protect its future.
