INTERVIEW: Retiring Morecambe cafe owner shares stories of 60-year music career

A Morecambe cafe owner has spoken to Beyond Radio about the decision to close and his more than 60 years involved in the music business.

Pete Blackburn and his wife Marilyn have decided to retire after 10 years of running The View cafe on Marine Road Central and will close for the final time on Sunday.

"Marilyn has got to stop for health, really, and I'm now 80, plus the (cost of living) situation that there is at the moment, it seemed like a natural time to stop," said Pete.

"Ten years is a while."

Pete has some incredible tales to tell of his career in the music industry, having performed as a singer and guitarist, as well as a comedian and compere, all over the UK, under the stage name Pete Nelson.

The View is famed for its rock 'n' roll memorabilia, collected by Pete during his decades of rubbing shoulders with some of the biggest names in showbiz, including Cliff Richard, The Shadows, Glen Campbell, Joe Brown, Johnny Cash, Duane Eddy, Jim Bowen, Marty Wilde and more (see below).

Pete has also been part of Morecambe Football Club for 28 years, mainly as a match day steward, and is writing his own memoirs, as well as a book on The Shadows.
