Morecambe's popular rock 'n' roll cafe set to close

The View Cafe in Morecambe

A family-run cafe in Morecambe famed for its rock 'n' roll music theme will be closing this weekend.

The View cafe on Marine Road Central will shut this Sunday (October 16) after proprietors Pete and Marilyn Blackburn announced their retirement.

The cafe has been a popular meeting place for fans of vintage rock 'n' roll due to its 1950s and 1960s background music and live entertainment memorabilia.

Pete (pictured below) is an accomplished guitarist who performed with many music and entertainment legends under his stage name Pete Nelson, having started playing in bands when he was 17.

The closure was announced in a statement on The View Facebook page.

"It is with a heavy heart we have to let all of our customers know that our little cafe will be opening its doors for the last time this Sunday October 16.

"It has been an amazing 10 years but due to retirement for both Marilyn and Pete it’s the end of a time.

"If they could carry on forever they would, but it’s in the best interests for now to be the time to close our doors and say bye to all of our amazing customers who are now friends.

"We cannot thank you all enough for your support in the past 10 years, we wouldn’t have been able to get through all the winters without you, and we definitely wouldn’t have survived a global pandemic without your loyalty and love.

"We appreciate now more than ever times are hard for everyone and we are overwhelmed with the support we still receive each day our doors open from you all coming in.

"Our staff over the years have all been incredible and we are gutted to be losing such an amazing team that have worked alongside our family, we wish each and every single one of them the best in whatever they may do in the future.

"Over the past 10 years so many memories, friendships and stories to tell forever have been made and we are forever grateful for the people we have met. The four of us wish all our customers the best and will forever remember your support and kindness over these years.

"Much love Nicole, Marilyn, Pete and Charlotte."
