The dates have been announced for the 2024 Heysham Viking Festival.
Last weekend’s event, the first since the Covid 19 pandemic, was hugely successful, as the crowds turned out to watch re-enactments and battles on the village field and surrounding areas, despite the poor weather.
The 2024 event will take place over the weekend of July 20 and 21.

‘’We were pleased to welcome back the festival last weekend after three long years, and the warriors and traders were so happy to be back until the unusually adverse weather caused chaos with almost everything associated with the event,’’ said the organisers in a statement.
‘’For those who braved the storm and managed to survive we thank you and to those who had to leave due to circumstances beyond their control we hope you all travelled safely home and we look forward to seeing you next year.
‘’I am however very disappointed with the various other organisations and committees who have tried to put obstacles in the way of the weekend and who have not been open to negotiations on timings of other events but are quite prepared to ride on the back of the festival for their financial gain. I hope we can resolve this for next year.
‘’Heysham Viking Festival is not possible without a lot of pre organisation and time along with practical organisation on the day.
‘’I have, as I did in previous years got a brilliant and committed team and special thanks need to go to them.
‘’Thanks too to Lancaster City Council for working with us throughout the organisation, our sponsors and volunteers.
‘’And finally, but by no means last you the public for supporting this event through the worst weather we have ever encountered.’’
