Morecambe band welcomes new lead singer after being "blown away by her voice"

Ellie Knowles is the new lead singer of Indifferent Monkey

A band from Morecambe has welcomed a new lead singer and is set to release new material in the coming months.

Ellie Knowles is the new singer of the trip-hop rock band Indifferent Monkey.

The band crossed paths with Ellie when they were performing at the Best of the Bay charity gig last summer.

Joe Lowe of Indifferent Monkey remembers Ellie performing on stage before them and being ‘blown away’ by her voice.

“Things needed a change and I was thinking who we could find,” said Joe.

“Then Ellie pops up in my head and I’m like ‘of course!’”

Ellie said: “I want to be myself within the band and hopefully that itself will take the band somewhere.”

Their first single with their new singer ‘Scream’ came out in December and has already collected almost 3,000 streams on YouTube.

The band is currently preparing to deliver their fans the new song ‘Total Love.’

Ellie has performed locally for several years including at Morecambe Carnival.

Here she is with the other band members.

“I wrote it the minute I knew Ellie was going to sing for us so I wrote it with Ellie’s voice in mind, so it has got a completely different feel to it,” said Joe.

“I believe that is going to be the song that puts us on the map and really gets people’s attention.”

The quartet has also collaborated on a song titled Little Pill with the New York band Energy Whores.

Indifferent Monkey were invited to perform at the Radio Wigwam awards in the Bedford in Balham on Friday, January 25 – the same event where they received the award for Best Band of 2022.

Last year the band filmed two unique music videos in Morecambe.
