INTERVIEW: West End to welcome festive season with Lantern Festival and Christmas market

We have been finding out all about a big festive weekend of events coming up in the West End of Morecambe.

A Christmas market and the annual Lantern Festival are coming to the Devonshire Road area on the weekend of Friday December 2 and Saturday December 3.

The Festive Market runs from 4pm to 9pm on the Friday and 11am to 4pm on the Saturday, with music, stalls, workshops, food and drink.

Then the West End Winter Lantern Festival procession starts at 6pm on the Saturday from More Music on Devonshire Road.

The 'More than a Market' is hosted by a group of local artists and makers called Creative West End, while the annual parade of lanterns through the streets of the West End is run by community music group More Music.

From singing to dancing, spoken word to film, the night will feature unlimited wonders celebrating young people’s ability to bounce back from life’s challenges.

It starts at 6pm at More Music's venue on Devonshire Road. Tickets cost £3 in advance and £5 on the door.

Creative West End will also put on a huge performance linked to the market around the alleyways of the West End. Artists will run various workshops, and there will be augmented reality sculptures and animations, dance performances, theatre, music and spoken word all happening on the Saturday with a build-up event on the Friday (December 2).

The weekend rounds off on the Saturday evening with the Baked A La Ska Christmas show inside More Music from 7.45pm.

More Music will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2023 and its popular Catch the Wind kite festival will return with a special event to mark the occasion.
