EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Cricket legend and TV personality Phil Tufnell chats to Beyond Radio

Phil Tufnell and Jonathan Agnew

Beyond Radio has spoken to cricket legend and TV personality Phil Tufnell ahead of his visit to Lancaster.

Tufnell will be joined by fellow broadcaster and ex-cricketer Jonathan Agnew for 'An Evening with Aggers and Tuffers' at the Lancaster Grand on Thursday March 23.

The stage show will see 'Tuffers' and 'Aggers' in conversation as they share hilarious stories from their cricketing careers and take questions from the audience.

Both men played for England and went on to commentate on many more international games for Radio 5 Live's Test Match Special.

In an exclusive interview, Phil spoke to us about what people can expect from the show, his own cricket career, his hopes for the current England cricket team as they prepare for The Ashes and the World Cup in 2023, and how he got his nickname 'The Cat'!

LISTEN to our full interview with Phil Tufnell

Tufnell was a top left-arm spin bowler for England in the 1990s, taking 121 wickets in 42 Test matches, but was also sometimes in the papers for his misdeeds away from the pitch.

Since retiring, he has carved out a successful TV career, appearing in I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here, The Jump, Strictly Come Dancing and as Matt Dawson’s opposing team captain in BBC’s A Question of Sport for 13 years.

The event is being run in aid of the Professional Cricketers’ Trust to help past and present players and their families in times of hardship and upheaval.

The show starts at 7.30pm and tickets are available from the Grand box office and website.
