The new season at a Lancaster theatre includes plays, classic shows, comedy, plenty for children and even Confessions of a Teletubby!
The Dukes has announced its spring season for 2024 including fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe, a show by Nikky Smedley who donned the iconic yellow costume to play Laa Laa on the hit kids TV programme Teletubbies for six years.
Arguments and poo! Sex and swearing! Blood, sweat, tears and giant rabbits! Life on the set of Teletubbies might not have been quite as you imagined.
Confessions of a Teletubby on Saturday March 30, lifts the lid on what went on behind the scenes of one of the most globally successful TV shows ever.
Also at The Dukes in the spring season, audiences are invited to step into a world of drama, passion, and creativity with a diverse selection of theatre shows.
Shows include renowned theatre company imitating the dog’s Frankenstein to Barrie Rutter's Shakespeare's Royals with Barrie Rutter OBE to an adaptation of classic ghost stories with Casting the Runes and so much more.
The Dukes will also open the doors once more to its newest theatre venue Moor Space.
Shows include From An Attempt to Lose Time which intricately weaves quantum physics, climate change, and a live Rube Goldberg machine assembly; and the glitzy and dangerous world of online gambling in Gamble; and a collision of the sacred and profane in The Witness, inspired by the Gospel of Mary Magdalene and more.
For the first time ever, the Dukes have announced a two week Family Festival in April which will include cinema, theatre, storytelling and workshops. The programme will include family favourites such as; Spot's Birthday, The Not So Big Bad Wolf, Claytime, Club Origami, Les Enfants Terribles and Shark in the Park with more to be announced at a later date.
Some of the UK’s biggest comedians will head to the Dukes, bringing some big laughs with Geoff Norcott (selling fast), Rachel Paris, Justin Moorhouse, Jessica Fostekew, Jo Caulfied and Paul Foot.
Comedy theatre will include Friend (The One with Gunther), a show which reimagines the hit TV sitcom through the eyes of Central Perk barista Gunther (played in this show by comic actor Brendan Murphy) and a double bill with multi-award winning musical-comedians Johnny & The Baptists.
Films on show at The Dukes next year include Poor Things, The Colour Purple, All of us Strangers and One Life aas well as National Theatre Live with Dear England and Vanya
The Dukes will be hosting a free Season Launch event on Friday January 12, where they will be joined by some of the artists bringing their shows for exclusive Q&As, talks and trailers and with prize draws.
The first new sound and lighting system to be installed in the Winter Gardens theatre for more than 50 years will be tested at a special one-off concert.
A DJ set by a star of Strictly Come Dancing and a chance to meet 'Beetlejuice' are just two of the many Halloween events announced this year for the Lancaster and Morecambe area.
