Sunshine success in Ibiza for Lancaster and Morecambe marathon runners

Carole Wilkinson and Dan Charnley at the Ibiza Marathon

Runners from Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics Club had the rare delight of blue skies and sizzling sunshine as they took part in the Ibiza Marathon.

Dan Charnley, Carole Wilkinson and David Wilkinson ran the marathon distance on the Balearic isle on April 13.

They had to contend with 23 degree temperatures but did very well, Dan finishing in four hours and 14 minutes, while Carole finished in 4.26.24 and David finished in 5.43.43.

Carole and David also ran the marathon last year.

The race takes place during the evening so participants can take in the views of one of the most scenic marathon routes in Europe.

On the same weekend, on April 14, it was Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics Club’s very own Three Bridges race.

A total of 254 people took part in the race, with James Johnson finishing first in 32 minutes and 45 seconds, over half a minute ahead of second place Paul Peters, while Adam Wilding finished third.

April 14 was also the day of the Manchester Marathon, the first of two major city marathons during the month.

Steve Perry took part in the London Landmarks Half Marathon on April 7, finishing with a time of 1.54.09.

In exciting news for the club, their upper Youth Development League team are competing in the north west Premier League this year.

Additionally, the team are being sponsored by FGH Security for the Premier League events.

A club spokesperson said: “This is a massive achievement and brilliant opportunity for all athletes allowing us to compete against some of the best athletes in the northwest.

“FGH Security have kindly donated YDL team T-shirts allowing the athletes to feel a part of the team and understand the importance of team spirit in what is traditionally an induvial sport.

“When we approached FGH about this sponsorship they were very keen to support our young athletes through what we hope will be another very successful season.”
