Stockton says he’s ‘hungry for more’ after finally opening scoring account

Morecambe striker Cole Stockton says he’s ‘hungry for more’ after he finally scored his first goal of the season this week.

The 28-year-old found the net 26 times last season, but hadn’t scored since the Shrimps’ Good Friday victory at Charlton Athletic last season, before finally opening his account in Tuesday’s penalty shoot out defeat at Lincoln City in the Papa Johns Trophy.

It was Stockton’s first goal, in his 20th appearance, with the striker admitting it was a relief to get off the mark.

"You get judged on goals, and it's always nice to get that first one and get running,’’ he said.

‘’From my perspective, it has been a long time coming and it's been a frustrating season for me so far, but that happens in football. You shouldn't get too low or too high, and you've just got to keep your head down and get through the challenging moments.

"Especially on the back of last season, it's made me even hungrier to try and push on even more, and there's no reason why I can't."

Morecambe have a blank weekend in the fixture calendar this weekend, due to not being involved in the FA Cup.

The Shrimps are back in League One action on Friday, December 2, as Exeter visit the Mazuma to face a side six points from safety inside the relegation zone.

"We know where we are in the league, but I think some performances deserved more," Stockton added.

"We created a number of chances in the league game (against Lincoln) and then again in the cup game (on Tuesday night).

‘’I think we've put on some good displays, and there is still a long way to go this season. So long as we keep applying ourselves in the right way for every game, then I think we'll have a very good chance of closing that gap."
