Simeu: ‘Every game is a cup final’

Morecambe defender Dynel Simeu says the Shrimps will keep fighting in their battle to beat relegation.

The Shrimps are 22nd in League One, three points from safety, with seven games of the season remaining, after a 1-0 defeat at fellow strugglers MK Dons at the weekend.

‘’Our very half was very good. Our counter press was good, and we were putting our bodies on the line,’’ said the central defender.

‘’But at the end of the day, we just had one shot on target, and that’s not good enough.

‘’They had one ball over the top, and just for that split second, they punished us, but that’s what we have to do to teams. We need to shoot. We’re doing the right thing, we just need the goals.

‘’But now we have a tough run of fixtures where we have to remain positive and keep that fight.’’

Morecambe have won just once on the road in the league all season, at Forest Green Rovers back in September, ahead of a tough looking trip to promotion chasing Barnsley on Saturday.

‘’Ultimately, in every one of the games we need to go out and try to win,’’ added Simeu, who has made 13 appearances for Morecambe since joining on loan from Southampton in the January transfer window.

‘’Every game is a cup final now. We just need results. You learn with experience that it’s results that count and it’s time to start getting them.

‘’It’s still tight at the bottom. We should just try and focus on ourselves, win games and hopefully pull teams down. We’ve made it hard for ourselves, and it’s down to us to get ourselves out of there.’’
