Shrimps ready for Carabao Cup test

Morecambe host Championship side, Stoke City, in the first round of the Carabao Cup this evening (August 9) at the Mazuma Stadium.

Manager Derek Adams says he will name a strong side for the tie, as the Shrimps look to pick up their first win of the season.

“I want to respect the competition, we won’t make many changes for the game on Tuesday night because it is a competition that everyone wants to do well in,” he said.

“You want to play your best team, that is what you want to do on a week-by-week basis and this competition is no different.

“We are looking forward to being back at home, Stoke is a game where they are favourites, it is great for us, it is the Carabao Cup and we want to progress to the next round.”

Stoke City head into the tie off the back of victory in the Championship over Blackpool on Saturday, with Michael O’Neill also expected to field a strong side.

‘’Stoke City are a side that have come down from the Premier League a number of years ago, but they are still a strong outfit," he added

“I have watched back their game against Blackpool, and they battered Blackpool, that is the level that we have got to try and compete with on Tuesday night, we know we can cause them problems and they will cause us problems no doubt.

“We think they will change their squad about a bit from Saturday, they haven't got as big of a squad than some teams in the Championship, so might not make as many changes as people might expect."

There’s full commentary of the match on Shrimps Live from 7:30 (kick off 7:45pm) on 103.5FM, 107.5FM, DAB+, or online via iFollow Shrimps.
