Shrimps prepare for tough Wednesday test

Morecambe have a tough assignment on their hands on Tuesday, with a trip to promotion favourites Sheffield Wednesday in League One.

The Owls are 17 league games unbeaten going into the fixture at Hillsborough, while the Shrimps remain in the relegation zone after a 1-1 draw with Forest Green Rovers at the Mazuma Stadium on Saturday.

There’s full match commentary on Shrimps Live from 7:40pm tomorrow (Tuesday, February 14), on our FM and DAB+ services.

‘’Forest Green Rovers changed their approach on Saturday, and it was the first time a team has come here and sat in. Other teams have come and had a go, and that has helped us with space to attack. On Saturday, they sat very deep, as we have done many times before teams, and frustrated them.

‘’We know the venue (from the FA Cup earlier in the season). Darren Moore has done an excellent job there, but we need to go there and cause an upset,'' said manager, Derek Adams.

‘’It would be a shock for us to win, we understand that.

‘’When you win, everyone is looking to see how many points have we gained on teams above us, how far have we got away from teams below us.

''If we win at Sheffield Wednesday, which we are going to go there to try and do, it will be one of the biggest shocks in the division this year.’’

Defenders Donald Love and Ryan Cooney are both doubtful for the game after coming off injured on Saturday, while Max Melbourne, Jake Taylor, Caleb Watts and Courtney Duffus all continue to train well on their recovery from injuries.

Adams also revealed that the club has missed out on two players who they had approached to sign outside of the transfer window.
