Shrimps prepare for Addicks test

Morecambe return to League One action this weekend as Charlton Athletic visit the Mazuma Stadium.

The Shrimps will begin the day five points from safety in the relegation zone, but have impressed recently on home turf, where Derek Adams’ men are four games unbeaten, including victory over Barnsley, and draws with Derby County, Portsmouth and Exeter City.

The Addicks come to the Mazuma looking for a new manager, after former Swindon boss Ben Garner was sacked earlier this week, with the club 17th in League One.

‘’It’s a difficult time to be playing them with them changing their manager,’’ said manager, Derek Adams, speaking to the Club’s website.

‘’I went to their game against Stockport (in the FA Cup). They started the game well, and then Stockport came into the game. They’ve stayed over ahead of Saturday’s game, so we understand what their about, but we understand what we’re about.

‘’We’re four unbeaten at home, and we feel we could have won some of the games we have drawn, and we’ve played a lot of big teams.

‘’We’ve drawn nine games in the league so far. We need to win games as that gives us three points to push us up the league, and take the chances when they come along.

‘’There are teams that have lost more games than us, but they’ve won more than us, and it is wins that get you further up the league.

‘’There’s a long way to go. We’re giving ourselves a fighting chance and we’re in a situation where we can catch many teams above us.

‘’We should have more wins, but we’ve shown at home we can compete with the best.’’
