Shrimps look ahead to Lancashire derby

Morecambe face Accrington Stanley in a Lancashire derby at the Mazuma Stadium tomorrow evening.

The game on Thursday (December 29, 7:45pm kick off), comes off the back of a 1-0 Boxing Day defeat at Port Vale, a result that leaves Derek Adams’ men still with plenty of work to do to climb out of the bottom four.

There’s full commentary of the game on our FM and DAB+ services, with coverage starting at 7:30.

Defeat for the Shrimps would leave the club ten points from safety in the League One relegation zone, while victory, which would be just their third of the campaign in the league, would cut the gap to four points.

Captain Donald Love will miss the game after being sent off for two cautions at the end of the game at Vale Park.

‘’It’s a big game. We look forward to it, and it’s a busy time with these three games in seven days,’’ said Adams.

‘’These home games will be beneficial to us. We’re looking to win.

‘’It’s a tradition as it’s a derby match and we understand what the supporters put into that.

‘’We have to turn around quickly, but we’ll get the players recuperated and ready to go.

‘’We haven’t had the breaks this season. (Against Port Vale for example), we hit the post and then they get a goal on the counter attack.

‘’The two bookings for Donald Love, and another penalty we should have had. We haven’t had a penalty all season. It’s easy for me to say that, but it’s the truth.’’
