Runners wanted for annual Christmas-themed 4k fun run in Lancaster

Entrants in last year's festive fun run

Runners are about to take part in an annual fun run with a Christmas theme in Lancaster.

Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics Club (LMAC) will hold its festive fun run on Wednesday, December 27.

This will be the 23rd edition of the club's annual 4k run.

The club has said there will be “a great atmosphere and a super festive medal for all finishers” with with people welcome to come in fancy dress.

More than 170 runners took part in the event last year, and a similar number have signed up already for this year’s run.

James Brassington won last year’s festive fun run, with a time of 13 minutes and 10 seconds.

Last year’s top four finishers were all members of LMAC, but plenty of runners from further afield and people who are aren’t associated with any athletics club also turn up to the event.

Online entries close at 11.59pm on Thursday (December 21) but people can pay on the day in person.

It starts at the clubhouse on Salt Ayre Leisure Centre’s athletics track (LA1 5JS) at 11am.

There is a limit of 400 participants for this year’s run and you are advised to pre-book online by following this link: https://bookitzone.com/susan_lucas_2/67jFFX

Entries online cost £6.35, and entries on the day cost £9.35.

Angus Murray, chair of Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics Club, will be on this week’s Saturday Sports Show from 9am to 10am on Beyond Radio, hosted by Alistair Fisher and Ross Chapman, to discuss the festive fun run and LMAC’s 2023 in general.
