Morecambe earned an excellent point in a goalless draw with Notts County at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium in League Two.
In a slow tempo first half, it was the visitors who produced the first good chance of the evening when a cross from the right landed at the feet of David McGoldrick on 15 minutes, though he fired wide from inside the area.
Michael Mellon curled one from distance, with the ball flying narrowly wide of Aidan Stone’s left-hand post, before the Magpies created two big chances just before the break.
Stuart Moore tipped over Macualay Langstaff’s header on 38 minutes before Jodi Jones, with a clear sight on goal, blasted over from inside the box.
A faster second half saw chances at both ends. Firstly, Adam Mayor stung the palms of Stone with a fierce drive from the edge of the box before, at the other end, Jones saw an effort rattle the crossbar following a cross from the right.
With just over 20 minutes to play, Mellon came a whisker away from opening the scoring. Tom Bloxham fed Mayor inside the area, he squared the ball to Mellon who turned on the edge of the six yard box, but his effort across the keeper flew just wide of the far post.
Late on, substitute Cammy Smith did well to dispossess an opposition defender and drive into the County box, before an effort was fired well wide.
The result leaves the Shrimps with four points from their opening three games, ahead of the visit of Bradford City to the Mazuma Mobile Stadium on Satutrday.
