Ben Williams' first-half strike was the difference between the sides, with the Shrimps failing to create any real chances of note until late in the game.

The hosts caught the Shrimps out though with a counter-attack on ten minutes in a two v one situation. Charlie Brown played in Dan Nlundulu, and with the goal gaping, the forward hit the side netting.

Liam Gibson tried his luck from distance with a curling effort, but it was well saved by Luke Southwood in an even contest for the first half hour, before the hosts took the lead on 35 minutes. The Shrimps were opened up down their left flank and a Ryan Jackson cross to the back post was smashed home by Ben Williams.

The Shrimps made two changes at half-time. Arthur Gnahoua and Dylan Connolly came on, with Derek Adams changing the system for the second half to a back four.

Cole Stockton had the ball in the back of the net on 49 minutes, with Liam Shaw playing a good pass to the forward to put him in on goal, but Stockton strayed just offside.

The Shrimps created little after that, until an Adam Mayor volley in the last minute found the side netting.

With five minutes added time given by the referee, Morecambe thought they'd gained a point when Caleb Watts threaded through Kieran Phillips, only for his sweet strike to cannon back off the angle of post and bar, to deny the Shrimps a last gasp point.

Cautions in the game for defender Farrend Rawson and midfielder Ousmane Fane mean that they are now suspended for Saturday’s trip to Wycombe Wanderers.
