Play off hero Songo’o rejoins Morecambe

Morecambe FC has confirmed the return of one of the club’s play-off heroes for a second spell at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium.

Yann Songo’o, who boasts over 300 career appearances, turned out 45 times for the Shrimps in his first spell at the club and was previously signed by manager Derek Adams at Ross County, Plymouth Argyle, Morecambe and Bradford City.

Fan’s favourite Songo’o has signed a one year deal.

The 31-year-old Frenchman spent the second half of last season on loan at Walsall before the expiry of his contract with Bradford City this summer.

On the return of Yann to the Mazuma Mobile Stadium, manager Derek Adams said: “Obviously Yann is somebody that I know very well. I have worked with him over five different spells and each time he has been a reliable and important member of the squads he has played in.”

“Given the transition of players this summer it was imperative to get some experience in to the building as we prepare for League Two and Yann gives us that. He now has over 300 appearances under his belt, the majority in the EFL and that will be vital for us going into the new campaign.”

Yann added: “My last spell at Morecambe was very successful as we won promotion to League One so my memories here are happy. It’s great to be back and to get going again.

‘’The manager is somebody I feel good working for and somebody who gets the best out of me and that is important at this stage of my career.

“I am excited to see our fans again. The last time I saw them was at Wembley and moments like that live with you forever.”

Morecambe return for pre-season training tomorrow (June 28).
