New Lancaster City Ladies management team announced

Becky Upjohn and Paul Winstanley have been announced as the new joint managers of Lancaster City Ladies FC.

They replace Scott King, who took charge in their first season back as a reformed ladies’ team last year and guided them to league and cup glory in the LFA Women’s County League Division 1 North/West and LFA Women’s County League Challenge Cup respectively.

Becky Upjohn made nine appearances for the team last season before a knee injury in the game against Whitehaven AFC Ladies ruled her out for the remainder of the campaign. She was caretaker manager in the semi final of the Challenge Cup against Penwortham Town Ladies Reserves.

Paul Winstanley is a former physio at the club and has previously given his support to the management team on match days, including in the Dolly Ladies’ cup final in June, which they won 5-3 against Horwich St Mary’s Ladies.

Becky revealed that she is likely to just focus on management next season, rather than being a player-manager.

The confirmation of the management team adds further anticipation to what is shaping up to be an exciting second season for the team as they compete in a new division: the LFA Women’s County League Championship Division. A number of players from last season have this week committed to next season and will undoubtedly be relishing the opportunity to play at a higher level.

If you would like to be part of the Lancaster City Ladies squad for the 2023/2024 season and you are 16 or over, then training is every Wednesday on the Giant Axe playing fields from 6.30pm to 8pm.

Pre-season friendlies will be announced in due course.
