Morecambe sign experienced midfielder Dan Crowley

Morecambe Football Club has announced the signing of Daniel Crowley on a deal until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.

Having come through the Academy at Aston Villa followed by a transfer to Arsenal in 2013 aged just 15, Crowley has amassed experience across the EFL for the likes of Barnsley, Birmingham City and Hull City.

Now 25, the midfielder has also spent time abroad, making close to 100 appearances for various sides in the Dutch top flight.

Born in Coventry, Crowley has also played at international level for both England and Republic of Ireland, making numerous appearances for both countries at youth team level.

A creative player in the middle of the park who possesses strong ability from set-pieces, Crowley joins the Shrimps from Willem II in Holland, who he joined in February last year.

On signing for the Shrimps, Daniel Crowley said: “I’m really happy to be here and can’t wait to get started.

“I’ve watched a fair bit of Morecambe over the past few weeks, and the team looks to be full of confidence and picking up some good results. Hopefully, as a team we can really push on further between now and the end of the season.

“I’ve missed English football, having spent the last year out in Holland. There’s nothing quite like playing at 3pm on a Saturday, so to be back in English football and playing for Morecambe is something I’m really looking forward to.”

Manager Derek Adams said: “Dan is a really talented player, and is someone we are really pleased to have here.

“He can play as a number ten, a midfield player or out wide, and he brings a real ability to open up defences and create assists and score goals from various positions.

“He’s played in the Championship here in England and played in the top division in Holland, so between now and the end of the season, he’s going to be a really good signing for us.’’
