Morecambe on loan midfielder Eli King recalled by Cardiff City

Morecambe’s on loan midfielder, Eli King, has been recalled by his parent club, Cardiff City.

The 21-year-old was signed in the summer on a season long loan deal, but the Bluebirds have activated the clause in the deal, which allows a club to recall a player on such a deal within the January transfer window, to then either return to that squad, or be loaned out to a different club.

The Wales U21 international has enjoyed a successful spell for the Shrimps in the heart of the midfield, completing 24 appearances in all competitions, including scoring in Morecambe’s FA Cup win over Wycombe Wanderers, and in the 5-0 victory at Doncaster Rovers in League Two.

In a statement, the club said: ‘’We'd like to place on record our thanks to Eli for his magnificent efforts during his short stint at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium and wish him all the very best in his career going forward.''

Morecambe began 2024 with five loan players in their squad, but are now down to two, after attacker Ethan Walker and defender James Connolly were recalled earlier in the window.

It’s expected that the future of both top scorer Michael Mellon, on loan from Burnley and winger Tom Bloxham, on loan from Shrewsbury Town, will be confirmed in the coming days.
