Up-and-coming Nelson Birchall has scored a third round stoppage win in his second professional fight.

The former seven-time national champion at amateur level blasted Miguel Zamora of Nicaragua to the canvas in impressive style in Manchester on Saturday with a series of big straight lefts from his southpaw stance.

The referee called a halt in the third round with Zamora looking unsteady under attack from the relentless Morecambe fighter.

Birchall, 19, trains in Chorley under the tutelage of former world title challenger Michael Jennings. He won his professional debut on points against Eliecer Quezada in December.

He comes from a boxing family, as his brother Leighton is also a multi-time national champion and brother William is a former junior captain of England.

Birchall is one of several professional boxers who are either based in or come from the Morecambe and Lancaster area, including world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, former Commonwealth featherweight champion Isaac Lowe, Owen Kirk, Niall Fielding and Reece MacMillan.
