Morecambe boss calls for Shrimps to take home form on the road for vital trip to Cambridge

Morecambe travel to Cambridge United this evening, with both sides in the League One relegation zone.

There’s full commentary of the game on Shrimps Live this evening (Tuesday, March 7), with our coverage from the Abbey Stadium starting at 7:30pm on our FM and DAB+ services.

Morecambe slipped back into the bottom four over the weekend, despite an encouraging display in a goalless draw with Bolton Wanderers, which moves the Shrimps to 32 points from 34 games, one point better off than last season, but in an identical position in the table – 21st.

Cambridge were promoted into League One at the same time as Morecambe, but after a comfortable first season in the division, have struggled this time round, and after a run of just one win in 12, find themselves inside the relegation zone.

Morecambe have lost just once in 12 at home, but away have lost their last seven away games, failing to score in their last five, and themselves are looking for just their second away league win of the season going into the contest.

‘’We’ve got a quarter of the season left,’’ said manager, Derek Adams.

‘’It’s about now pushing on. It’s spring time, it’s moving season, and that’s what we’re trying to do.

‘’We have to catch the teams above us. Our objective is to go into the final game of the season more than four points ahead of the team in fourth bottom place.

‘’Our away form has to be better. We have to pick up wins, but what we have got is more players coming back, and that gives us the chance to be competitive.

‘’We’re working towards safety and we now look forward to Tuesday night.’’
