Morecambe manager Ged Brannan has strengthened his backroom staff with the appointment of David Fitzgerald as First Team and Senior Professional Development Coach.
Fitzgerald spent 11 years at Accrington Stanley across two different spells with a successful stint at Bury sandwiched in between.
During that time, he has amassed a great level of coaching as well as recruiting experience, which saw him bring countless players into the first team at the Wham Stadium.
Speaking on his arrival at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium, Fitzgerald said: "I'm really looking forward to it, my prior experience has given me a good grounding around League's One and Two.
"I've worked with Ged at Accrington Stanley, we've gotten to know each other well and we have the same level of understanding, I know what he is looking to do and where he wants to go.
"Coming here with having a young squad, it's a great environment for me and the challenge is, moving forward, hopefully to help and support the players, and to improve them and progress us up the league."
Fitzgerald's arrival will fill a void in the backroom staff created as the Brannan stepped up to the manager's role, and the Gaffer is excited by his latest addition.
He said: "I know Fitzy very well, he's a top coach and really good at recruitment as well, so with Greg [Strong] going, it's a massive plus for us as a Club.
"He's brought some great players into first team football which will help. I've seen him coach and he's a top, top coach, so he can only bring positives to the Club.
"He's been involved at Bury when they were absolutely flying, he was recruiting there and doing really well; he's been recruiting for Accrington's first team, he was coaching for the U18s and U23s with me.
"As I say, he's worked really closely with me over the last three or four years and I'm looking forward to getting him on board."
