Here are the latest reports from Lancaster Hockey Club.

Lytham St Annes 1s 1-6 Lancaster 1s

Lancaster travelled to Lytham St Annes on Saturday March 4 in the hunt for more goals and points.

Both teams were slow to start as they got used to the bobbly pitch. After five minutes though, goal machine Ali Standeven-Johns sprang into action and fired the ball into the right-hand side of the goal.

Lancaster were unfortunate not to score in quick succession but the Lytham goalkeeper made a number of saves to keep them within reach.

Holly Hunter scored Lancaster’s second after following a rebounded shot and slapping it passed the goalkeeper. On the stroke of half-time Lancaster scored again as Zoe Oswald fed the ball into space for Standeven to run on to and powerfully hit into the left-hand corner of the goal.

Into the second half and Standeven completed her hattrick before succumbing to a hand injury.

Lytham continued to fight despite the score line and drove the ball forward. After taking a quick free hit outside the D, the ball was hammered from the top of the D.

Lancaster wanted more goals though and this time it was Nicola Conway to score from a penalty corner. A bullet straight strike into the left-hand corner of the goal gave the lunging goalkeeper no chance to save.

Conway scored again in the 61st minute, skilfully flicking it passed the goalkeeper into the netting. The 3 points takes Lancaster to 4th in the table with 4 games remaining.

Lancaster 3s 5-0 Lancaster Nomads 2s

Lancaster 3s welcomed Lancaster Nomads 2s, in a local derby last weekend.

Lancaster started the quicker of the two teams with Ellie Blackstone, Ellen Wills and Naomi Osborne driving Lancaster forward. Lancaster struck first after five minutes when Rebecca Airey hammered the ball home.

Lancaster continued the pressure and 10 minutes later earned a flurry of short corners. A well struck straight strike from the top of the D by Rebecca Airey placed perfectly into the corner, hit the backboard before the Nomads goalkeeper hit the floor.

Five minutes later Jayne Roper found herself in ample of space down the right-hand side, she played a perfectly weighted cross across the D to Izzy Liver who calmly waited for the keeper to dive before flicking the ball over her.

Lancaster didn’t want to hear the half time whistle, but it eventually came. The half time team talk spurred Lancaster on further and 10 minutes into the first half Rebecca Airey once again converted from a short corner.

Lancaster maintained their pressure throughout the whole game. With five minutes to go the ball dropped to Kathryn Ellison who smashed the ball into the goal.

The game ended Lancaster 3s (5) v (0) Lancaster Nomads 2s.
