Lancaster darter Jo looking to Twinkle on the world stage

A darts player from Lancaster is looking forward to playing on the famous Lakeside stage later this year.

Jo Clements will compete at the WDF World Championships for a second time in December, after receiving an invitation to compete at the iconic venue at Frimley Green, after finishing high enough on the world ranking table.

Last year Jo, whose darting nickname is ‘Twinkle’, made the last 16 of the televised event.

In 2022, Jo, who has been playing for more than 24 years, beat ten time ladies World champion Trina Gulliver, as well as being only one of five ladies to have beaten the new, up and coming ladies darts phenomenon, and current WDF World Champion, Beau Greaves.

‘’I’ve been playing darts properly now for just over 12 years starting in my local pub once my daughters had grown up,’’ says Jo.

‘’I have been doing the WDF darts circuit for two years now and this has taken this Lancashire Lass all over the world to countries such as Belgium, France, Italy, Denmark and many times participating at the World Master events in Holland.’’

‘’One thing you never realise whilst watching these events on TV is the amount of work that has gone on in the background to make it happen,’’ says Jo, on her first Lakeside experience.

‘’The Lakeside is a hive of rooms each filled with lots of different people, all doing what they do to make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible for everyone whether it be players, their families and friends or those supporters sat at home watching.

‘’The Lakeside was everything I hoped it would be. It was the iconic venue and people that made it extra special for me. 

‘’To get a win at Lakeside on my debut is more than I ever dreamed.  I feel humbled, more determined and proud.’’
