Lancaster City will make the trip to Tyne and Wear on Saturday (February 4) to face NPL Premier Division leaders South Shields.

The Dollies were defeated 2-0 when the two sides met at the Giant Axe last September.

However, Lancaster City can go into this game with confidence. They haven’t lost a game since December 3 and ended a run of four consecutive draws last Saturday (January 28) by beating Matlock Town 2-1 at the death.

South Shields, though, have only lost one home league game out of 14 this season and have conceded the least amount of goals out of any team in the division. They are top of the table, two points ahead of Hyde United, with four games in hand.

The Mariners’ players tend to share the goals around, but Darius Osei is currently the club’s top scorer with 11, two of which were scored in the team’s last game against Marske United, which ended 4-2 to Kevin Phillips’ men.

When speaking to the media after their win over Matlock Town, Lancaster City manager Mark Fell challenged his players to “go and upset the odds” against their opponents on Saturday.

Lancaster City announced this week that Brad Carroll had been voted the fans’ player of the month for both December and January. The midfielder has been ever-present for the Dollies in the last two months and has been absolutely key for them.

South Shields v Lancaster City kicks off at 3pm on Saturday (February 4) at the 1st Cloud Arena.
