Lancaster City set to travel to Stafford Rangers

Andrew Teague

Lancaster City travel to the NPL Premier Division’s bottom side on Saturday.

Dave Cooke was appointed as the new manager of the club in the last week of November following Matt Hill’s departure earlier that month.

Despite his reign getting off to a good start with a 2-0 win over fellow strugglers Atherton Collieries, they suffered two heavy defeats the following week - one in a regional cup, losing to Kidsgrove Athletic 6-0, the other in the league, being beaten 7-2 by Warrington Rylands.

Their last result was a narrow 2-1 defeat to third placed Ashton United.

On the same week Cooke joined, former Morecambe forward A-Jay Leitch-Smith also signed for the club.

As for Lancaster City, their managerial situation has not changed since Mark Fell’s resignation on November 22.

Andrew Teague and Simon Grand are set to take charge of their third game as the interim coaching team, with the club not having made any comment about the managerial vacancy since Fell’s departure.

It’s been two and a half weeks since the Dolly Blues last played.

Their last result was a 2-1 win over Whitby Town on November 28, which was then followed by a series of fixture postponements due to frozen pitches and the opposition either being involved in other competitions or, in the case of last week’s scheduled opponents Marske United, having their licence to play suspended.

City are currently 13th in the table but there are just seven points separating them and the playoff places.

This week, Calen Gallagher-Alllison joined North West Counties League Premier Division side Longridge Town on dual registration in order to get more game time.

Stafford Rangers v Lancaster City kicks off at 3pm on Saturday at the Stan Robinson Stadium.
