Lancaster City will host Matlock Town in the hope of getting a much-needed three points.

The Dollies are currently 16th in the Northern Premier League Premier Division and will be looking to get their first victory in six in the league this Saturday afternoon.

Their last four games have ended in draws and, in truth, they could’ve come away with all three points in at least a couple of those games had they been more clinical.

They were 2-0 down at Radcliffe on Tuesday before a Jake Connelly-inspired comeback earned them a draw.

The Dollies will be missing two vital defensive players on Saturday. Jamie Mellen came off in the first half of the game against Radcliffe with a groin problem before captain Andy Teague broke his arm.

While broken arm injuries do take time to recover from, usually around two months, the skipper took to Twitter to say he will hopefully be back “sooner rather than later”.

Although Matlock Town have, over the course of the season, been a more fearsome proposition on home turf than they have on the road, the current eighth-placed team in the league beat Stafford Rangers away from home in their last outing on January 14.

The Gladiators are four points off the playoff spots, with one or more games in hand on most of the other teams in the playoff mix.

Matlock scored the fastest goal of the season so far in the NPL in that match – Karl Demidh got on the scoresheet just 9.33 seconds into proceedings!

Lancaster City v Matlock Town gets under way at 3pm on Saturday (January 28) at The Giant Axe.

Bookings are now being taken by Lancaster City for the remainder of the season to be team of the week – a school, junior football team or a community group - or a mascot. To enquire, contact dave@lancastercityfc.com
