Lancaster City welcome Matlock Town to The Giant Axe this Saturday (February 3) looking for another big win.

The Dolly Blues are now just five points away from the NPL Premier Division playoff positions after a dramatic 3-2 comeback win over Bradford (Park Avenue) last Saturday.

It was manager Chris Willcock’s first win in charge since taking over at Lancaster midway through January.

He said City’s win last weekend was “what  Lancaster’s DNA is all about.”

Matty Clarke was announced as Lancaster City’s Player of the Month for January this week, as voted for by the fans, after some excellent displays, particularly as a substitute in a comeback win over Atherton Collieries at the turn of the year.

Lancaster have been in decent form for the past couple of months and, with the playoff spots a matter of points away, they will be hoping to get another vital victory this weekend.

Matlock Town have won their last two games, scoring three goals in both.

They beat Atherton Collieries 3-1 away from home then convincingly saw off FC United of Manchester last week with a 3-0 win at home.

They are 14th in the league but have had a fair few impressive results this season, the most notable being a 4-0 thumping of runaway league leaders Radcliffe back in November.

The man who scored all four goals in that game has now left the club.

Jonathon Margetts left the club last month, signing for National League North side King’s Lynn Town, off the back of an impressive first half of the season with the  Derbyshire side.

Despite his departure two weeks ago, he is still the NPL Premier Division’s top scorer this season, having scored 22 in the league and 28 across all competitions.

Lancaster City v Matlock Town kicks off at 3pm on Saturday (February 3) at The Giant Axe.
