2019/20 Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy winners Lancaster City were knocked out of this season’s competition on Wednesday by Bamber Bridge.
After both teams received a bye in the first round, this was their first outing in the trophy this season. A goal from ex-Lancaater City man Rhys Turner proved enough to separate the teams and send the Dollies out of the competition.
In a game of few chances which is seen by many as a fierce derby game, Bamber Bridge took their first real one of the game – Rhys Turner scored an impressive volley from just outside the 18-yard box.
Brig had a chance to double their lead when they were awarded a penalty after Vaughn Green was brought down, but Sam Waller was equal to the spot kick and pushed it away.
After a first half which the visitors dominated, the second 45 was a little more even but Lancaster created few decent opportunities and never really looked like equalising.
There was some good news for Dollies fans – club captain Andy Teague made a substitute appearance, his first bit of on the pitch action since a nasty head injury he suffered in the game against Stafford Rangers on November 5.
Brad Carroll, was given the Dollies man of the match award for a solid performance in the midfield, in a very scrappy and far from vintage affair.
It’s a quick turnaround now for the Dollies, their next game is against Marine on Saturday (December 3) at 12.30pm – the decision to have early kick off made as a provision due to a potential fixture clash with England at 3pm that day.
