INTERVIEWS: Tyson Fury wants 'celebratory pub crawl' round Morecambe after undisputed fight

Tyson Fury says he'll celebrate becoming undisputed heavyweight boxing champion of the world with a pub crawl round Morecambe!

Tyson was speaking exclusively to Beyond Radio on an unprecedented day at Morecambe Football Club where 'The Gypsy King' held a pre-fight press conference ahead of his mega clash with Oleksandr Usyk.

Fury thanked Morecambe FC for hosting the event and explained why he'd wanted the media day for the biggest fight in boxing to be held in his home town.

Usually pre-fight press conferences for major boxing matches are held in cities like London, Manchester, Las Vegas or Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, where Fury will fight Usyk for the undisputed title on May 18.

But Tyson, who lives in Morecambe, wanted this one to be held on his doorstep - bringing the world's boxing media to the North West seaside.

"In camp I don't have time to run to London and take a couple of days out," he said.

"Anyone who's anyone is here today and what a place to do it."

"I'm feeling good. I'll get in there and put in the best performance I've got," said the WBC Heavyweight Champion.

"I feel good right now at home, I'm going to stay at home and maybe go out (to Saudi Arabia) a week, 10 days before. I'm not sure. We'll play it day by day as it comes.

"I think he's a good fighter, a very good boxer. He's going to be a tough man to crack but if anyone can do it, I can."

Fury's promoter Frank Warren was also at the press event in Morecambe on Wednesday.

We asked him for his thoughts on Tyson, the Usyk fight, and even cheekily inquired if he might be interested in buying Morecambe FC, which is up for sale!

"I think it was marvellous," said Frank, speaking about the press conference.

"Tyson is in such a good mood at the moment. He's in such a good place. I don't want him to peak too soon, but he's got good people around him.

"He loves the area, he loves the people around here.

"They've really looked after us and who would have thought Morecambe Football Club would be hosting a press conference for the biggest fight of the century? There's a bit of history for you!"

Tyson's manager Spencer Brown (pictured below, left, with Fury's trainer Sugar Hill) has a lot of love for Morecambe and links to the town, having promoted shows at The Carleton club here several years ago.

"I love Morecambe and I thought it was a genius move to do it here," said Mr Brown, who lives in Lytham St Annes.

"This is a historic fight. This is monstrous and who's in the middle of it? Little old Morecambe!

"Tyson is fully behind the town and doesn't want to go anywhere else. He's staying here. He loves it here. I love Morecambe! I love the ice cream!"

Wednesday's event was a huge coup for the football club as the press conference in the Local Choice Suite was streamed worldwide to millions of viewers.

We spoke to Jodie Assitt, head of events, bars and catering, to find out what it meant for Morecambe FC.

"We've in since the crack of dawn and it's taken a lot of prep to get the event set up, and it all went really well," said Jodie.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for the club to showcase our facilities worldwide."
