Heysham Atoms rugby league club has signed a new sponsorship deal with a local security company.

Atoms junior chairman Andy Downey said the club was “very happy” with the new deal with Heysham-based firm Lingwood Security Management.

The sponsorship starts immediately and will help with a new kit for the newly-formed ladies’ team, who have played one game so far.

“We try and keep our costs as low as possible so to have a local firm who is willing to invest and sponsor the club is massive and will be put to good use," said Andy.

“We’re not a massive club but we’re now boasting eight junior teams, a ladies’ team and an open-age team.

“We seem to have more messages coming through social media enquiring about children playing and trying the game, so the local sponsors are huge for us.”

Alan Lingwood, managing director of Lingwood Security Management, told Beyond Radio he is “proud to be contributing to the Heysham Atoms”, adding that it is a “great family club and matches our values as a family-run business”.

“We will continue to support the club going forward and will continue to share the success of the team," said Mr Lingwood.

The club, which currently ground shares with Vale of Lune at Powder House Lane, finished bottom of the North West Men’s Premier Division.

It is now “95 per cent confirmed” that the club will stay in that league due to the number of clubs competing last season being low.

Andy said that “rugby league is a great sport to come and try, so give it a go!”
