Former Blackburn midfielder becomes latest Morecambe signing

Midfielder Jacob Davenport has become the latest summer recruit for Morecambe FC.

The 24-year-old joins on a one-year deal.

Davenport has been training and participating in friendlies with Morecambe for the last week, and impressed Manager Derek Adams who has now brought the former Manchester City midfielder to the Mazuma Mobile Stadium on a permanent deal.

Davenport who spent his youth career at the Etihad joined Burton Albion on loan in 2018, where he made 17 appearances for The Brewers. Following his return to City he left permanently to join Blackburn Rovers, where he would spend 4 years before joining Lincoln City on a short-term deal.

He spent the second half of last season at Stockport County, where he was part of the side that narrowly missed out on promotion to League One in the play-offs.

Derek Adams said: “Jacob is a player with quality who needs to find a settled place to play after a couple of years of moving around. He has done well since coming in over the last week and we are pleased to add him to our group for the season ahead.”

“It’s clear to see Jacob’s pedigree from his journey to date. He is still only 24-years-old so has his best years ahead of him and hopefully we can help his achieve his potential.”

On joining Morecambe, Davenport added: “This is a new chapter for me. I have come in over the last week or so and really enjoyed it. There is a good group in the changing room and a group I think I will enjoy being part of over the course of the season.”

“It’s been a tough couple of years but hopefully now I can be a bit more settled here and kick on. This is a club that has proven that it can take in younger players like myself and help us to develop which is a big attraction for me.”
