Ex-Lancaster City boss Mark Fell to take over at Workington at end of season

Mark Fell

Former Lancaster City manager Mark Fell will become manager of Workington AFC when the current season ends in April.

Fell, who managed Lancaster between October 2018 and November 2023, will succeed current Reds’ boss Danny Grainger, who announced his intention to leave the club at the end of the season last month.

Graham Lancashire will work alongside him, as he did throughout his time at The Giant Axe.

Fell resigned from his role at Lancaster City last November, claiming his relationship with the club chairman Andy Baker was “beyond repair”.

Workington are a fellow Northern Premier League Premier Division side, winning promotion last season from the NPL Division One West via the playoffs.

In a statement released on the Cumbria club’s website, Fell said: "I’m delighted to be joining Workington AFC, from the first meeting with the board it was clear to me this was a great opportunity and there was a real alignment in terms of ambition and ways of working.

“This is a huge club in the NPL, with a great infrastructure and superb fanbase, Danny has done an exceptional job and leaves the club with really strong foundations for us to work from, my job is to build on this and the planning processes for 2024/25 are already well underway.

“I'll be joined by my long-standing assistant Graham Lancashire and we'll also be putting the finishing touches to the rest of the backroom team shortly.

“I can't wait to get started and look forward to meeting everyone at the club in the coming weeks."
